A deputy with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office was arrested over the weekend after a domestic violence incident, authorities confirmed.
It happened on Sunday morning at the home the deputy shares with the victim, the location of which was redacted from an arrest form.
According to authorities, deputies responded to the home and met with the victim, who said she and the deputy, who has been identified as 25-year-old VT, have been in a relationship for six years.
The victim told police that a verbal argument with T escalated until it became physical, when he “intentionally and against the victim’s will applied pressure to the victim’s throat and impeded the victim’s breathing for 30 to 45 seconds,” an arrest form stated.
Deputies arrested T on a felony count of domestic battery by strangulation and took him to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without incident.
On Monday, T appeared before a Miami-Dade judge, who granted him a $2,500 bond but ordered he stay away from the victim’s home.
Local 10 News reached out to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office for comment, and Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz responded with the following:
“I am disappointed by the arrest of a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy on domestic battery-related charges. Domestic battery is a serious offense, this behavior is unacceptable, and the deputies who serve under my leadership are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct at all times.”
