An 8-year-old girl was hospitalized Sunday night after she was accidentally shot in the ankle at a home in Miami-Dade County, authorities confirmed.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the shooting was reported at about 8:40 p.m. at a home in the 3700 block of Southwest 87th Court.
Deputies said the girl’s father accidentally dropped his gun, and it discharged, striking the girl in the ankle.
The girl was transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
Detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office General Investigations Unit are investigating the incident.
No other details were immediately released.
