A 30-year-old man has been arrested after investigators say he allegedly attacked his brother with a machete during a violent dispute at a Biscayne Gardens home over a year and a half ago.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as JJL, who was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon in Doral.
According to an arrest report, the incident occurred on May 12, 2024, when the victim received a text from L asking him to come to his home near the 200 block of Northwest 146th Street to pick up his belongings and meet him at the front doorstep.
When the victim arrived, deputies said he found L outside the door holding a machete.
Detectives said an argument escalated when L pushed the victim, causing him to drop the items he was carrying.
L then allegedly pressed the machete to the victim’s face and neck while demanding that he return his keys, according to the report.
The victim briefly went inside to gather his belongings but returned outside to retrieve a flower vase from his vehicle.
Investigators said L then followed him, reached for the vase and, when the victim tried to stop him, raised the machete. A struggle broke out, and L began swinging the weapon, striking the victim’s hands and later cutting his right leg, according to the report.
A cousin of both men who witnessed the attack on home surveillance video ran outside with a gun and ordered the victim inside the home, the report stated.
Deputies said the cousin then took him to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for deep lacerations to both hands.
They said the victim suffered nerve damage and broken bones in his right hand and ruptured blood vessels in his left. He also required stitches to his right leg.
Deputies located L on Wednesday near Northwest 167th Street and took him to MDSO’s Special Victims Bureau for questioning.
After being advised of his Miranda rights, detectives said Lisssade admitted to “being involved in a dispute with the victim over keys but denied any allegations of using any physical force towards him.”
Jail records show he is facing one count each of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery.
As of Friday afternoon, he is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was set at $7,500.
L, who has worked for the TSA for the past two months, appeared in bond court Saturday. A judge ordered him to stay away from his brother and to surrender all drugs, weapons and guns.
