Miami-Dade woman accused of assaulting son over house chores dispute

Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrested a 37-year-old woman Monday night after they said an altercation with her teenage son over household chores turned violent, authorities said.

According to deputies, the incident occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. at the family’s home, which was redacted in the arrest report of MCR.

Deputies said R woke her son up after he had gone to sleep, reportedly because he had not completed his chores. The situation escalated when Rodriguez allegedly hit her son in the body.

Authorities said the victim, after waking and beginning to wash dishes, accidentally dropped a metal fork.

They said R then picked up the fork and threw it toward her son’s face, but he was able to dodge it.

Deputies said R then picked up a broomstick and began hitting her son with it, causing bruises to both forearms, his left upper arm, and chest.

They said R then instructed her son to clean the bathroom.

While he was cleaning, authorities said she allegedly sprayed him in the face with a bottle of glass cleaner, causing his eyes to become red and irritated.

After taking R into custody, deputies said she denied the allegations, stating she had only been involved in a dispute with her son over chores and restrictions on going out with friends.

That report stated R told deputies that she never hit her son and did not know how he sustained the injuries.

Jail records show R is facing one count each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and two counts of battery.

As of Wednesday, she was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where her bond is listed is “to be set.”
