A domestic dispute between a separated couple escalated when a southwest Miami-Dade woman pulled out a gun on her husband outside his residence amid suspicions of infidelity, authorities confirmed Monday.
The couple, who police said are currently living apart, were involved in an argument over infidelity allegations on the property, which consists of a large agricultural parcel with trailers.
Police said Mirza Morera, 54, arrived at her husband’s residence near the 20000 block of 168th Street and called him to open a large front gate near the home just before 10 a.m. Sunday,
When the victim reached the gate, police said he saw Morera standing outside, holding a semi-automatic gun in her left hand while accusing him of infidelity.
As Morera ordered her husband to open the gate faster, she discharged a round into the ground, prompting him to fear for his safety.
In a panic, the husband entered his vehicle and attempted to flee, inadvertently crashing into a wooden utility pole while trying to escape, according to an arrest report.
During this time, police said Morera repositioned her vehicle to the county swale across the street from the property.
A nearby witness, living in a separate trailer on the same property, heard the argument and the gunfire and called the police, the report stated.
Officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Hammocks District responded to the scene and found Morera standing outside her vehicle, holding the semi-automatic firearm.
Police said officers then ordered her to place the weapon on the ground and subsequently took her into custody.
Jail records show Morera is facing one count each of aggravated assault with a firearm, improper exhibition of a firearm or weapon and unlawful discharge of a firearm while inside a public place or residential property.
As of Monday, she is being held on a $3,000 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
