A Sunday night house fire in Gulf Breeze significantly damaged a home, displaced its residents, and killed a dog that was inside, according to the Midway Fire District.
Officials say Midway Fire District crews were dispatched to the 3300 block of El Prado Street at about 8:42 p.m. after a 911 caller reported smoke and flames visible from the residence.
The occupants had safely evacuated, but there was a report that a dog was still inside, according to the Midway Fire District.
Officials say when firefighters arrived, Battalion 35 reported a working fire involving an attached garage. Crews also found a pickup truck on fire in the home’s driveway.
Firefighters began suppression operations and conducted primary and secondary searches of the residence.
During the search, crews located the dog, but the animal did not survive, according to the Midway Fire District.
Officials said the home sustained significant fire, smoke, and water damage.
One occupant suffered an injury to his hand while trying to rescue the dog before fire crews arrived, according to the fire district.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Midway Fire District was assisted by Holley-Navarre Fire District Engine 41 and Battalion 40 and Escambia County Fire Rescue Ladder 13.
