Monroe County man accused of attacking victim after getting caught burglarizing vehicle

A 28-year-old man from Little Torch Key was arrested Tuesday after he was caught red-handed burglarizing a vehicle and then attacked the victim, authorities said.

According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Adam Linhardt, deputies were called to Jolly Roger Drive around 9:30 a.m. after the 68-year-old victim spotted the suspect, Spencer Alton Fletcher, inside his vehicle.

Linhardt said the victim confronted Fletcher and Fletcher punched the victim in the face.

The victim later realized that his home had also been burglarized and a door had been forced open, Linhardt said.

Fletcher was quickly found and detained. He faces charges of battery on a person over 65, burglary and criminal mischief.
