A single-vehicle crash led to the death of one person and injuries to three others in Davenport late Friday night.
Around 7:54 p.m., four people were traveling on North Ridge Trail when their 2024 Nissan sedan left the roadway while traveling at high speeds, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle went over the guardrail, through a fence, and struck a tree.
One passenger, 39-year-old Alicia Carmona of Jacksonville, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Her two children — a 15-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy — were injured in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle, 36-year-old Tiffany Alexander West of Orlando, suffered facial fractures. West and the two children were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The children are in stable condition, but the sheriff’s office did not reveal the statue of West.
The crash is being investigated by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations. THI investigators say they observed impairment in West and obtained a sample of her blood for testing.
The sheriff’s office said charges are expected pending the investigation.
