Mother joins man in jail after baby found with multiple fractures in St. Lucie County

A woman is the second arrest in the disturbing case of a three-month-old baby found with multiple fractures earlier this year.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) said the case began on March 29, when medical staff at HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital alerted authorities after discovering both fresh and healing fractures on the infant — including a recent arm fracture and older breaks in the ribs and leg. Due to the severity of the injuries, the child was transferred to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for specialized care and is now in a safe environment.

The sheriff’s office said on July 29, 27-year-old DA — the baby’s mother — was arrested for child neglect. She was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail, following continued investigative efforts by detect

This follows the July 18 arrest of 33-year-old JL, who was charged with aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm. L was taken into custody by St. Lucie County detectives in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and is being held on a $50,000 bond. Officials said the baby was in his care when the injuries were sustained.

St Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jennifer Diaz said at the time of the arrests neither of the parents seemed remorseful.

“The father had no emotion was more worried about bonding out,” Diaz said. “And the mother seemed very aligned with the father knowing of the injuries, but doing nothing to prevent them to her children.”

Detectives launched a comprehensive investigation involving forensic analysis, medical evaluations, and collaboration with child protection experts.

“This second arrest demonstrates our commitment to uncovering the full truth and securing justice for this innocent child,” said Sheriff Richard Del Toro. “Harming a defenseless child is inexcusable. If you harm a child or prey on the most vulnerable in St. Lucie County, you will be held accountable”.

Sheriff’s officials obtained a search warrant on the couples home and discovered cellphones images of bruises to the face of the baby and a 4-year-old non-verbal child with autism.

“They’re not normal injuries that happen from just a normal fall,” said Diaz.

Both children are now in the care of their maternal grandmother.

The investigation remains active, and no further details have been released.
