Mother’s world completely ‘turned upside down’ after son was fatally hit by SUV in Grand Park

The mother of a 13-year-old boy who died from his injuries after an SUV hit him last Wednesday is grieving the loss of her son.

Kameron Turner was walking to school with his 14-year-old brother when he was hit at the intersection of Division Street and Kings Road in Grand Park. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died on Sunday.

His mother remembers her son as a beautiful soul and a blessing from God.

“My world has completely turned upside down,” Sharice Turner said. “It’s like I’m living in the twilight zone.”

She said her son wanted to be an engineer. She often bonded with him by building Legos — a hobby Kameron enjoyed. She said he also had a passion for sports.

“I had just talked to him the day before. I talked to him on Easter. He was out playing with his friends. They were at the park. He would always call me while he’s out playing. And I would say, ‘Buddy, you’re supposed to be playing. What are you doing calling me?’” she said.

Kameron has six siblings who his mother said are all mourning his tragic loss.

“They are torn up. The kids are little more resilient so they’re able to cope a little better. I wish I was a kid sometimes,” she said.

Kameron was planning to spend the summer with his mother in Oklahoma, but now she is planning to lay him to rest in his home state.

“I used to call him buddy all the time,” Turner said.

She said Kameron was excited to come home for summer, saying he told her he couldn’t wait to see his family.

But that’s something she won’t be able to do anymore.

“We’ll just see him one last time, lay him to rest,” she said.

Turner’s family created a GoFundMe to help raise funds to relocate Turner’s body to Oklahoma for burial.

Jacksonville police said the driver, who is around 60 years old, is cooperating with investigators.
