Motorcyclist dies in crash on Clark Road

A 21-year-old motorcyclist from Sarasota was killed in a collision Wednesday at Clark Road and McIntosh Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Investigators say motorcycle was traveling at high speed east on Clark Road between the left lane and left turn lane, approaching a red traffic light at McIntosh Road.

A Chevy SUV was traveling north on McIntosh, approaching a green light in the left turn lane at Clark Road.

The motorcycle ran the red light and and hit the left rear side of the SUV, troopers said. The driver of the SUV, a 64-year-old man from Indiana, suffered minor injuries.

After the crash, the motorcyclist was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
