LAKE WALES, Fla. (WFLA) — A motorcyclist died in a crash with a pickup truck near Lake Wales on Tuesday.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Polk County Fire Rescue crews were called to Mammoth Grove Road near Stokes Road just before 10 p.m.
PCSO said the motorcyclist, identified as 38-year-old Justin Casey Weyburn of Lake Wales, was heading east on Mammoth Grove Road when he was struck by a pickup truck pulling a boat on a trailer. The pickup was pulling out of a driveway and into the westbound lane, but ended up hitting the motorcyclist head-on in the eastbound lane.
Weyburn was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The pickup driver, 41-year-old James Keen, Jr. of Lake Wales, was not hurt. PCSO said Weyburn was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The roadway was shut down for three hours.
