A 28-year-old Englewood man died Sunday evening following a high-speed motorcycle crash on S. McCall Road.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene near Point of Pines Road around 7:46 p.m.
Troopers said the Englewood man was driving a motorcycle south on S McCall Rd., approaching Point of Pines Rd., at a high rate of speed.
A 67-year-old man was facing north in the center turn lane on S McCall Rd. waiting to turn left.
A third vehicle was driving south on S McCall Road on the left lane, approaching Point of Pines Rd.
The motorcycle driver was driving in the center turn lane when he attempted to pass between the two cars.
Troopers said the front of the motorcycle collided head-on with the 67-year-old man’s car. The motorcyclist reportedly became separated from the bike before colliding with the man’s windshield.
The 67-year-old driver was taken to the Englewood Hospital to be treated for injuries.
According to FHP, the motorcyclist sustained critical injuries and was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The identity of those involved has not been shared at this time.
