A motorcyclist was killed after a pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. Saturday on State Road 44 east of Huff Road.
According to a report, a 2008 Ford F-650 pickup traveling eastbound went into the westbound lane and struck a 2023 Indian Roadmaster motorcycle that was traveling westbound.
The impact caused the motorcycle to catch fire and threw the rider into the path of a 2017 Toyota Highlander that was behind the motorcycle, troopers said. The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report. The Highway Patrol did not release the rider’s name.
The report said the victim was a 39-year-old man from Tavares.
The pickup driver, a 27-year-old Hobe Sound man, was taken to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital with serious injuries, the report said. The Toyota driver, a 63-year-old woman from Apopka, was not transported and was reported uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation.
