The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a deadly crash at the intersection of Lem Turner Road and Prospect Street Thursday afternoon.

Video from the scene showed a badly damaged motorcycle and a red SUV with its airbags deployed.

According to police, the SUV was heading northbound on Lem Turner Road, when it made a U-turn at the intersection of Prospect Street.

At the same time, the motorcyclist was headed southbound on a motorcycle and collided with the SUV.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said speed was likely a factor.

“A witness reported the motorcyclist may have been moving along a little too fast. We’re still investigating that,” said Sergeant Robert Hungerford.

This is the 91st traffic fatality in Jacksonville this year and the 23rd fatality involving a motorcycle.
