Multi-unit electrical fire at Fort Myers townhome leaves 1 injured

A multi-unit structure fire at a Fort Myers townhome left one woman injured.

According to the Fort Myers Fire Department, this was an electrical fire at a townhome on Washington Avenue with three units. Crews say that the fire started in the middle unit at about 4:50 this morning.

“We just woke up to a fire, and it was so heavy with smoke, couldn’t even see. My face got burnt. I take my fiancé to the hospital. The ambulance took me, for smoke inhalation. And the cat? We have started biting our nose real hard and saved our lives,” said Jerry Moore. “Woke us up because I was dead asleep and everything got burnt up.”

One woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and has since been released. Three cats were rescued from the blaze.

The Red Cross has been dispatched to assist residents who have been displaced because of the fire.
