Multiple shootings across Jacksonville leave 4 wounded, 1 dead

Four separate shootings in the span of 12 hours between Saturday night and Sunday morning left four people wounded and one dead.

One shooting was fatal, another left a victim in critical condition, and a third involved two teenagers, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. No arrests have been announced in any of the shootings.

Around 3 a.m. Sunday, JSO officers responded to a shooting at Citigate Apartments on Gate Parkway West. When the officers got there, they found a man in his mid-20s who had been shot. He died at the scene.

Investigators detained multiple people, who were speaking with detectives about what happened. At the time, investigators said they didn’t know the relationships of everyone involved or what led up to the shooting.

Around the same time, police were called to another shooting on Edgewood Avenue South, where they found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators said the man was approached while he was walking by a suspect who shot him once and ran from the scene. The victim was last listed in critical condition.

Earlier Sunday morning, around 1 a.m., a woman was shot in the head while walking along Monaco Drive in North Jacksonville. Police said she was stable at last check, but did not have any other information on her condition.

The shooter ran from the scene.

The string of violence began around 8 p.m. Saturday when two teens were shot at Woodstock Park off Beaver Street.

One teen was shot in the arm, and the other was shot in the hand. Both are expected to recover. They were taken to the hospital by someone who was passing by and saw they needed help.

The teens told officers that two men wearing hoodies and masks came up to them at the park and demanded their backpacks. The teens said they handed their bags over, but were shot as they tried to run away.

They said the two men ran off toward the back of the park.

Anyone with information about any of these shootings is encouraged to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
