Nephew accused of killing uncle after night at DAER Nightclub birthday celebration

Nephew accused of killing uncle after night at DAER Nightclub birthday celebration

A son’s birthday celebration at DAER nightclub ended in tragedy after he returned to his family’s home, and his father was allegedly shot and killed by his own nephew.

The Lantana Police Department (LPD) said that they were alerted to a possible homicide around 5:47 a.m. on January 12 at a home on Melody Lane.

When officers arrived at the scene, they reported finding the suspect, identified as OM, 27, bleeding from the face and detained by witnesses.

The probable cause affidavit states that the 50-year-old victim was discovered in the rear passenger seat of a car and pronounced dead by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

The wife of the victim told officers that her family had gathered to celebrate the birthday of her son at Daer Nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel.

Through speaking to witnesses, LPD discovered that before the night’s festivities, M had allegedly stopped to acquire drugs.

Additionally, one of the family members who drove with M to the nightclub reported seeing him with a black handgun and a bag of white powder, possibly cocaine.

According to the victim’s wife, her niece, M began exhibiting strange behavior at the nightclub, prompting concerns from those around him.

Another family member told LPD that M was waiting in his car for two hours before leaving the nightclub due to not feeling well.

The report states that after the family returned home in two cars, the victim’s son informed his mother that M had shot his father.

“O shot papi, call the police,” the son said.

Family members reportedly attempted to subdue M, leading to a physical altercation that ended with M being restrained until police arrived, according to the report.

LPD reported that several firearms were found at the scene, and forensic analysis later confirmed M’s DNA on the murder weapon, a Glock 19 with an extended magazine.

M, who allegedly denied recollection of the events, was found with injuries consistent with an assault and tested positive for alcohol, according to the report.

Additionally, the probable cause affidavit states that M’s girlfriend told police the victim’s family provided drugs to him.

M was arrested on Tuesday and has been accused of second-degree murder with a firearm.
