Orlando police on Friday released new video (watch above) in connection to a homicide, three years after a man was shot and killed while walking his pet dog.
D.J. W, 35, was fatally shot on Nov. 29, 2021, at the Timber Sound Apartments in the 4800 block of Raleigh Street, southeast of Kirkman Road and State Road 408.
Police posted on X that an unknown assailant approached W, shot him and ran away. Officers were called to the scene and found W dead.
In the newly-released surveillance video, the culprit is seen walking through the apartment complex. The assailant was wearing a white hoodie over his head, a black shirt, a black jacket and black pants.
M W says her son DJ was a family man and did not deserve to die. The 35-year-old’s unsolved murder happened three years ago on this exact day, just a few yards from his home in Carver Shores.
His mother said he loved children, and even though he had 12 of his own, he found time to help his siblings and their kids. In fact, he was walking his brother’s dog before work in their Timber Sound apartment complex around three o’clock in the morning, when someone shot and killed him.
M W told News 6, “It’s been very hard every day. You know, every day I miss him because he was my baby. He wanted to help me so much. I helped him too. He brought his kids, and we all hung out together. So, it’s been very hard.”
W says she has been asking police to release this surveillance video from the night it happened.
“I’m praying there’s some tips that will get called in,” W said. “I would like peace and also for my grandkids to be at peace, all of us to be at peace after three years. No one has seen this security camera video before. Somebody’s got to recognize this person.”
Police said anyone with information about W’s shooting death is urged to come forward.
“(Nov. 29) marks the three-year anniversary of the murder of DJ L W,” Orlando police posted on X. “The investigation into his murder is still ongoing, and detectives are once again asking the community for assistance in bringing justice to DJ and his family. In the early morning of November 29, 2021, DJ was walking his family dog at the Timbersound Apartments (4849 Raleigh Street) when an unknown assailant approached him. The suspect approached DJ, shot him, and fled the apartment complex on foot. For the first time, we are releasing surveillance video from the night DJ was murdered.
