A 66-year-old woman was hit and killed by a pickup truck after trying to cross Pine Island Road at Pacific Avenue in Lee County on a bicycle Saturday night.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s report, the crash happened at 7:30 p.m. when the driver of the pickup truck, a 23-year-old Fort Myers man, was driving west on Pine Island Road on the outside lane toward Pacific Avenue.
The bicyclist, from North Fort Myers, tried crossing the westbound lanes on Pine Island Road and entered the lane of the pickup truck before being hit, the report states.
She was taken to the hospital after suffering serious injuries before dying.
The crash is still under investigation.
