Ocala police: Elderly worker attacked after 3 suspects try to steal Stanley cups

The Ocala Police Department needs help finding three women accused of shoplifting at Dick’s Sporting Goods and attacking a 71-year-old worker.

According to police, the incident occurred on College Road on Jan. 19.

“The suspects went into the store, tried to steal a bunch of merchandise, tried leaving the store,” said Jeff Walczak, public information officer for Ocala Police.

Walczak said the items, which were mostly Stanley drinking cups, were worth more than $1,000.

Surveillance video from the store shows how two suspects tried leaving with the merchandise through the entrance door, and when the door was not opening, police say they left the items on the ground and walked towards the exit.

The video went on to show one of the suspects walking back inside the store and then running to grab the items. Police said when she tried escaping, the elderly worker jumped in front to stop her, but the woman was seen hitting the employee before taking off.

Investigators said the suspects got into a white sedan, which appeared to be a Hyundai Sonata, and drove away.
