Ocala teen arrested for opening fire at homecoming party, deputies say

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 17-year-old accused of opening fire at a bonfire party celebrating homecoming for a high school in Marion County.

Sheriff’s deputies charged ZS, 17, with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm by a minor, carrying a concealed firearm, public discharge of a firearm, and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Investigators say S fired multiple shots at another teenager at a bonfire party celebrating Forest High School’s homecoming on Southeast 52nd Court in Ocala on Sept. 28. Multiple people witnessed the shooting; however, they couldn’t identify S.

Detectives found a video on social media showing S firing shots at the victim. Deputies shared a still from the video, and an Ocala Police Department officer recognized him from a previous interaction. Later, his parents confirmed S was the person in the video.

On Tuesday, his mother took him to the sheriff’s office, where he was taken into custody. He admitted to detectives that he had a gun at the party. He was booked into the Department of Juvenile Justice.
