Off-duty Jay volunteer firefighter killed in single-car crash in Santa Rosa County

A 27-year-old off-duty Jay volunteer firefighter was killed in a single-car crash Saturday morning in Santa Rosa County.

It happened around 2:30 am on State Road 87, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Jay man was driving south in his Ford truck when it left the roadway and collided with a ditch and utility pole, according to FHP.

FHP says the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The FHP Traffic Homicide Investigators have taken control of the investigation.
