An Okaloosa County school bus hit and injured a 13-year-old bicyclist Wednesday morning.

It happened around 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of N Ferdon Blvd and Ninth Ave.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the bus — driven by a 51-year-old Crestview woman — was traveling east on Ninth Avenue and approaching the stop sign located at the intersection. Meanwhile, a 13-year-old Crestview boy was riding his bike north on the sidewalk as he approached the crosswalk located at the intersection.

The bicyclist entered the crosswalk to cross Ninth Avenue. FHP says after having stopped, the bus proceeded into the intersection across the pedestrian crosswalk while attempting to make a right turn and collided with the bicyclist.

The boy suffered serious injuries.

No further details have been released.
