A 59-year-old Okeechobee woman died in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday night on State Road 78, south of Roberson Drive, in Glades County. The crash involved an SUV, a sedan and a semi-truck.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was driving an SUV south on SR-78 at 7:24 p.m. when she crossed the dashed yellow center lines into the northbound lane.
A 21-year-old Naples woman driving a sedan in the opposite direction swerved left to avoid the SUV but was unable to react in time.
The SUV struck the sedan, causing it to rotate and stop partly on the grass shoulder and the southbound lane.
The impact sent the SUV into the path of a fully loaded semi-truck, which crashed into its front left side.
The SUV then veered off the road and came to rest on the grass shoulder of the southbound side of SR-78.
The semi-truck, driven by a 54-year-old Hialeah man, sustained considerable damage.
The Okeechobee woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other drivers were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
