One dead, another hospitalized when pedestrians struck by train in West Palm Beach

One person died and another was hospitalized when the pedestrians were struck by a freight train Saturday night in West Palm Beach.

Police responded to the incident along the 500 block of Monroe Drive around 6:20 p.m. The incident was west of U.S. 1 and north of Southern Boulevard, now called President Donald J. Trump Boulevard.

The incident occurred on Florida East Coast tracks used by freight and Brightline trains. It was just south of Brightline’s West Palm Beach train station.

Upon arrival, officers located an individual near the train tracks, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second person was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A Brightline train had stopped in the area as the tracks were cleared.

The investigation is ongoing.
