One person was airlifted after a crash late Tuesday afternoon on the Morse Boulevard bridge in The Villages.
Two vehicles were involved in the head-on collision at 5:20 p.m. on the bridge over Lake Sumter.
A medical helicopter landed at about 6 p.m. in a makeshift landing zone in a field near the Sumter County Sheriff’s Annex at Morse Boulevard and County Road 466. One patient was loaded onto the helicopter, according to witnesses.
The Florida Highway Patrol has been called in to investigate the crash.
In addition to FHP, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and The Villages Public Safety Department responded to the crash scene.
Traffic on the bridge was partially shut down due to the investigation. Golf carts were still able to cross the bridge.
