One person was killed in a house fire in Escambia County Wednesday night.
Escambia County Fire Rescue responded to a home on the 800-block of Merlin Terrace around 8:30 p.m.
One person is dead as a result of the fire. No other people were injured.
“Firefighters immediately entered the home to search for the trapped victim and make every effort to rescue them,” the county says in a release. “While conducting a search of the house, the roof collapsed, leading to increased difficulty while conducting search-and-rescue operations. Following a thorough search of the home, one victim was located deceased inside of the garage.”
Firefighters brought the situation under control by 10:06 p.m.
The home is a total loss.
The Bureau of Fire and Arson is investigating the cause of the fire.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance during the response.
