Owner believes arson to blame in Biscayne Gardens apartment fire

Owner believes arson to blame in Biscayne Gardens apartment fire

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews battled a fire that swept through an apartment in Biscayne Gardens early Thursday that the owner of the complex believes was intentionally set.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at the building near the 15600 block of Northwest 2nd Avenue around 5:30 a.m.

When they arrived, smoke and flames were coming from one of the apartments. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, and there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the owner believes it was intentionally set.

“The apartment, somebody came with a gas can inside and just poured it all over the furniture and the mattresses,” said Albert, the property owner, who would not give his last name.

The air reeked of gasoline. The fire was contained to one apartment in a four-unit building, thanks to fire walls that separate each apartment. Unit 1 was destroyed.

Albert said he’s owned the apartments for 11 years and has no idea who would have set the fire.
