Palm Harbor firefighters catch developing fire inside townhouse wall

A great catch by firefighters saved a four-unit townhome from a “very big fire,” the Palm Harbor Fire Rescue said.

Crews responded to an unconfirmed fire at 12:36 a.m. for a single-story townhome with four units.

The caller woke up and smelled smoke, so they called 911, PHFR said.

Firefighters noticed a slight smell, which is commonly attributed to the cold weather and dust on the heater coils.

According to PHFR, firefighters then noticed wispy smoke on the back of the unit where it meets with the unit next door. Crews opened the roof and wall of the unit next door and found a fire beginning to develop in the stucco wall and roof line.

“This was quickly extinguished and what could have been, if not found, a very big fire,” The Palm Harbor Fire Rescue said.
