Palmetto man arrested after girlfriend fatally shot, police say

Police in Palmetto have arrested a man in connection with the shooting death of a woman late on Sept. 21.

Officers said reports of gunfire in the 1400 block of 12th Avenue West were received around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. At the scene, two witnesses directed officers to the driveway of a nearby home, where the body of 30-year-old BGB was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

The witnesses told police that B had called them for help before the shooting, saying her boyfriend, later identified as CRM, 25, was armed and acting aggressively. When they arrived, M confronted them and opened fire, killing B. The witnesses ran from the scene.

Authorities said M fled westbound and was later found hiding at the Manatee County Fairgrounds with the help of a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit and helicopter. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police said a firearm believed to be the murder weapon was recovered nearby.

M is charged with second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. He is being held at the Manatee County Jail without bond.
