A Pasco County deputy was injured Tuesday after being struck by another driver who troopers said failed to stop for his patrol car, despite his emergency lights being activated.

The crash happened just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 near the intersection of Collier Parkway and SR-52, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the deputy was traveling northbound on Collier Parkway in a marked patrol vehicle that was “in emergency mode.”

Other cars came to a stop as the deputy began clearing the intersection. However, a Lexus sedan kept going and crashed into the deputy’s patrol vehicle, the FHP reported.

The impact caused the patrol car to overturn, slide into the southbound lanes of Collier Parkway and crash into a third vehicle, a Chevy pickup truck.

Troopers said the deputy, described only as a 26-year-old man, and the driver of the Lexus sedan, a 56-year-old Lutz man, both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. No further information was immediately available.
