A Pasco County woman was arrested Wednesday after driving under the influence and crashing into a building and a sheriff’s vehicle with her kids in the car.
A Pasco County deputy was conducting a routine patrol around 2:59 a.m. on US-19 when he saw a red Kia Spectra run a stop sign at a high rate of speed while turning onto northbound US-19. The deputy followed the vehicle before conducting a traffic stop where the vehicle initially stopped.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the deputy got out of his vehicle, but the driver, identified as R, 32, began driving forward and made a left turn onto westbound Sea Ranch Drive, then into a parking lot.
When R entered the parking lot, she hit the wall of the building with the front of her car, causing minor damage to her car and no damage to the building.
After hitting the building, the Pasco County deputy moved his vehicle behind R car to continue a traffic stop, but she put the vehicle in reverse and hit the front of the PSCO vehicle, causing damage.
R has three passengers in her vehicle: her boyfriend and her two children.
“While speaking to Kari R about the crash, I observed her to have bloodshot and glassy eyes, speak with a slurred speech that was mumbled at times, and I smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath as she spoke toward me,” FHP said.
After a field sobriety test, R was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
According to FHP, R was transported to the Port Richey Police Department for a breath test. The test returned with results of 0.134 and 1.140 BrAC.
During the test, R told the trooper that the results would “probably be the same as last time,” referring to her last DUI arrest.
R was charged with:
- Driving under the influence with more than 0.8 grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath.
- Driving under the influence while accompanied by a person under the age of 18 years old. (x2)
- Driving under the influence (crash-property damage).
- Driving while a license is suspended with knowledge.
