A 20-year-old man has been accused of attempting to kill his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend as they were taking a walk in Riviera Beach.
The Riviera Beach Police Department (RBPD) stated that on Tuesday at 9 p.m., they received a report of someone being shot in the area of Silver Beach Road in Riviera Beach.
When detectives arrived on the scene, they reported finding a 23-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his right leg.
Detectives stated that they spoke with the victim’s girlfriend, who told them she was the intended target.
The girlfriend further elaborated and told officers that she was walking with her boyfriend in front of a church when a car stopped in the road, and four men jumped out and began to shoot at them.
The report states that the girlfriend knew one of the shooters, identified as 20-year-old J D, because she used to date him.
After D shot the victim, he allegedly attempted to shoot his ex-girlfriend, but his gun jammed.
According to officials, the four men then got back into their car and fled the scene.
RBPD officers stated that they went to where their “Shot Spotter” gunshots at a church located at 1617 Silver Beach Road and found 30 spent shell casings lying in the roadway.
In a conversation with RBPD, D stated he had no involvement in the shooting. However, he did have issues with the victim over stolen clothes and his ex-girlfriend.
D has been accused of two counts of attempted murder.
