Panama City Police Department dispatchers began receiving calls about a shooting taking place at the intersection of Hwy 231 and Harrison Avenue on Saturday at around 4 p.m.
According to a news release, officers in the area immediately located the suspect vehicle, a gray Ram pickup truck attempting to flee the scene. Officers pursued the vehicle North on Highway 231, while other officers responded to the scene.
As officials were trying to stop the pickup truck it collided with a police car on an access road between Peppers Mexican restaurant and the Holiday Inn.
The truck ended up in the Peppers parking lot where police arrested two people.
Officials said officers from PCPD, BCSO, and FHP rendered aid to the victims until EMS arrived and transported them both to a local hospital for further treatment.
One victim succumbed to their injuries soon after arriving at the hospital, and the other victim is in critical condition, officials confirmed. The next of kin are being notified.
PCPD confirmed they had received a video of the incident and asked residents to not share the video out of respect for the victim’s families.
