Pedestrian dies in Clearwater hit-and-run, search continues for driver

 A Clearwater man walking in a crosswalk has died after being struck by a vehicle in Clearwater on Wednesday.

According to a release from the city, Clearwater Police, along with Clearwater Fire & Rescue, responded to the crash around 9:30 p.m in the 1400 block of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard.

Elbert Gilbert, 60, of Clearwater, was in a marked crosswalk when a vehicle traveling west on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard hit him.

Gilbert was taken to a local hospital, where he died late Wednesday night, according to the City of Clearwater.

The City of Clearwater said the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run may be a red Ford Mustang 2020’s model with front-end damage.
