Pedestrian fatality shuts down Highway 98

On Tuesday, the Panama City Police Department responded to a fatal incident involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

It happened at about 6:15 p.m. near the intersection of Grant Avenue and U.S. Highway 98.

According to the Panama City Police Department, a pedestrian was trying to cross the highway when he was hit.

The pedestrian died on the scene, according to authorities.

The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

Authorities have closed U.S. 98, west of Michigan Avenue as they continue to investigate and clear the area.

Anyone traveling to and from Panama City Beach is encouraged to use 23rd Street, authorities wrote in a social media release.
