Pedestrian hit by impaired driver in deadly Madeira Beach crash: PCSO

One person was killed in a pedestrian-involved vehicle crash that happened in Madeira Beach on Friday.

A release from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said that the crash occurred at 9:01 p.m., when 72-year-old Michael Arndt was at a marked crosswalk near the intersection of 150th Avenue and Madeira Way.

According to the release, at the same time 51-year-old VD was driving her Jeep Wrangler east on 150th Avenue in the median lane.

Investigators said that the Jeep struck Arndt in the crosswalk causing him to fall underneath the vehicle. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies said that D exhibited signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrested D and charged her with DUI manslaughter. She was taken and booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
