A pedestrian was injured in a hit-and-run incident on Southeast 16th Place near Southeast 21st Terrace in Cape Coral on Sunday. The driver reportedly confessed to police after initially fleeing the scene.
RL, who recently moved to Cape Coral from Miami, expressed his concern about the driving habits in the area. “It’s like Fast and Furious out here. It’s crazy out here,” L said. “Everybody driving fast and in such a hurry. I don’t know what’s going on here. And I just moved here.”
Police found the woman crying on the side of the road, bleeding with cuts on her arms, hands, ankles, and forehead. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
L emphasized the seriousness of the incident, saying, “You can’t just hit somebody and run off like that. What if she had died? Yeah, what if it was his mom, what if it was one of his loved ones? Somebody hit him and ran off. How would you feel about that?”
A witness was able to spot the car driving away, and police tracked down Giuseppe Foglia just over half a mile away, sitting in his car at the Four Mile Cove Condominiums. Police said Foglia confessed, telling them he swerved to avoid another car and thought he hit a mailbox. When he realized there was no house nearby, he knew it was a person. He said he panicked and didn’t know what to do, so he left.
Foglia, who just turned 18, was arrested for hit-and-run with injury.
“It doesn’t matter to us, young or old. They need to watch where they go. There. Learn how to drive,” L said.
L also expressed his belief that Foglia should be held accountable, saying, “I think he still should be responsible. Because if he at least you go back and check on the person.”
