A pedestrian was struck and killed early Monday morning in a crash that shut down the northbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike in Homestead.

The crash happened at around 3:04 a.m. in the area of Mile Marker 1.

“A pedestrian was walking along the paved shoulder and entered onto the roadway,” the Florida Highway Patrol said. “An oncoming vehicle collided with the pedestrian within the left travel lane.”

The pedestrian died at the scene. Their name was not immediately revealed.

All northbound lanes were closed at one point for the investigation.

FHP did say if the driver could be facing charges.
