Pedestrian struck, killed while walking on road in Volusia County, Florida Highway Patrol says

A man walking on a road in Volusia County early Saturday was struck by a car and killed, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 2:12 a.m. on State Road 44 (New York Avenue) near its intersection with Blue Lake Avenue, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the pedestrian — identified as a 64-year-old DeLand man — was east of the intersection and walking westbound on S.R. 44 while a sedan was being driven eastbound on the same roadway. As a result, the front of the sedan struck the pedestrian, who troopers said was not in a marked crosswalk.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene while the sedan’s two occupants — a 21-year-old man driving with a 24-year-old man riding as passenger, both of DeLand — were not injured in the crash and remained at the scene, the report states.

FHP is still investigating.
