Person dies after being pulled from burning home in Polk County, firefighters say

A person died after being extricated from a burning Polk County home late Saturday, according to firefighters.

Polk County Fire Rescue responded shortly before 11 p.m. to Jason Lane, near Polk City, where crews worked quickly to locate the potentially-trapped person, get them out of the house and render aid, the fire department said in a news release.

The person was taken to the hospital as a trauma alert and was later pronounced dead there, the release states.

No firefighters were injured and the fire was deemed under control shortly after midnight, according to the fire department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
