A person was shot and killed while allegedly trying to enter a home in St. Lucie County Wednesday night, deputies said.
The shooting happened around 9:11 p.m. Aug. 12 at a home in the 3300 block of Orange Avenue in the Seminole Mobile Home Park.
Deputies with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and personnel with the St. Lucie County Fire District responded after receiving a report that someone had been shot while allegedly attempting to enter the residence.
Deputies found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The person was taken to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
Detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the home and hospital as part of the investigation.
Investigators later obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence, recovering a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
The investigation continued overnight, with detectives and crime scene investigators clearing the home around 6:11 a.m. Thursday.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation. Detectives are working to determine what happened and why the victim was at the residence.
Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and said there is no known immediate threat to the surrounding community.
