Pinellas County man dies after fleeing from deputies, crashing vehicle

A man from Seminole is dead after he crashed his vehicle while fleeing from authorities in St. Petersburg early Monday morning, Florida Highway Patrol announced.

Around 3 a.m., Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a 2023 Dodge Charger over the tint of its windows. The vehicle fled, causing deputies to request assistance from FHP.

The vehicle was spotted again traveling at a high rate of speed near Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Street North and 7th Avenue North, according to FHP. A trooper tried overtaking the vehicle, and deputies deployed spike strips, but the suspect still managed to flee.

After losing sight of the vehicle, troopers located it shortly thereafter crashed at 16th Street South and 7th Avenue North in St. Petersburg at 3:15 a.m.

The driver, 30, suffered fatal injuries from the crash.
