Police: 1 dead after car strikes elderly Ocala couple

Phot by: Ocala Police Department

Ocala police say one man is dead after a car struck an older couple Thursday night.

Police say officers responded to the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and West Silver Springs Boulevard just before 7 p.m. after receiving reports of a car hitting two pedestrians.

According to investigators, a witness told police that a vehicle was headed westbound on Silver Springs Blvd as the couple — identified as an 83-year-old woman and an 89-year-old man — began to cross the roadway in a crosswalk.

The Ocala Police Department says the couple began to cross as the “do not walk” sign was active. Both were struck by the vehicle and were taken to the hospital.

Police say the 83-year-old woman remains in stable condition, but the 89-year-old man died Friday afternoon.

The crash remains under investigation, and officers say no speeding or impairment is suspected.
