A teenage girl was injured in a stabbing Friday night.
Police say a 16-year-old girl was stabbed in the neck during an argument between two groups.
According to police, there was some kind of dispute that started at a local high school earlier in the week.
A school resource officer got wind of a plan to settle the dispute Friday night somewhere in town.
The police knew something was up and were ready.
They ended up meeting in an area at one end of the park.
Police say the 16-year-old girl who was stabbed in the neck was attacked by another young girl.
She is expected to survive.
“We work with kids, and to think of kids doing this is just mind-boggling,” resident Rebecca McDonnell said.
“The saddest part is people don’t even seem surprised when something like this happens at a big community event,” resident Andrea Garner said.
This marks the third case of teen violence in recent weeks.
In March, a 15-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly shooting a woman to death near the Central Florida Fairgrounds.
Also, last month in Orange County, a 15-year-old allegedly stabbed two teenage girls at a skating rink. One victim, a 16-year-old girl, died.
“It’s really unfortunate what these kids are doing to each other and also to themselves. The young lady who would get so angry to hurt someone physically in that way … you can’t take that back,” resident Lauren Brown said.
It’s a flash of anger in a city park that can’t be taken back and changes the lives of two young girls and their families.
The victim was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
In a Facebook post, the chief of police, Chuck Broadway, said she is “stable” and urged young people “not to let poor decisions today negatively impact your future.”
