Police: 2 injured, airlifted after making ‘hard landing’ in Florida skydiving mishap

Two skydivers in Lake Wales were injured after landing off course, police say.

According to the Lake Wales Police Department, emergency personnel responded to the downtown area around 3 p.m. on Monday in reference to a group of skydivers who had landed off course.

Officials say they located three skydivers in the area between Seminole Avenue and Wiltshire Avenue along Scenic Highway.

One skydiver was not injured, but police say two other skydivers made hard landings and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The two were airlifted for treatment.

According to witnesses, two of the skydiver’s parachutes were fully open, and the third appeared to be partially tangled.

Police learned that the skydivers were among a 14-person group who jumped from an altitude of 14,500 feet to practice crew formations. That plane departed from and landed at the Lake Wales Airport, police say.

Police added that a few other skydivers landed a little off course in nearby pastures, but did not report any other injuries.
