A man from Stuart was killed after being stabbed in a park on New Year’s Day.
The Stuart Police Department (SPD) said officers responded to a report of a stabbing at Smith Turner Park, at 599 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, at 5:23 p.m. on January 1.
At the scene, officers found a man suffering from at least one stab wound. Officers said the man received immediate treatment from officers and Stuart Fire Rescue before being airlifted to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the victim was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances of the incident and are interviewing witnesses. The preliminary investigation indicates that this was an isolated incident and that the individuals involved were known to each other.
