Police: Man shot outside UPS facility in Hialeah

Police: Man shot outside UPS facility in Hialeah

Multiple people were detained for questioning early Thursday morning after a shooting was reported outside a UPS facility in Hialeah, police confirmed.

According to Hialeah police, the shooting was reported around 3:20 a.m. at 6001 East Eighth Ave.

Police said officers arrived at the scene and found the victim, who had been shot at least once, hiding in the parking lot.

Hialeah Fire Rescue units also responded to the scene and transported the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center to be treated for his injuries.

According to police, shortly after arriving, offices detained multiple people who were trying to flee the scene near East Eighth Avenue and 56th Street.

Further details about what led up to the shooting were not immediately released by police, but a man at the scene told Local 10 reporter L M that he received a call from the victim, who works for UPS, prior to the shooting.

“He told me to come here because somebody was trying to jump him. That’s when I came,” the man said.

He said he and another friend arrived to the UPS facility, but police were already there and he wasn’t able to speak with the victim.

“I was worried about my friend,” he said. “When I asked them what was going on, they wouldn’t tell me. I’m basically family, so I wanted to know what was going on.”

A woman at the scene told M that she was at the UPS to pick someone up when she heard gunshots.

Police kept her and her passenger at the scene as they investigated, but later permitted them to leave.

Police have not yet released information about those who they detained.
