Police: Man with last name ‘Love’ stabs woman at MIA

A 29-year-old man who Miami-Dade detectives identified as Alexander Love caused havoc at the Miami International Airport late Saturday night, police said.

Love stabbed a woman he knows several times and attempted to throw her over a railing from the fourth floor shortly after 11:30 p.m., at MIA’s Terminal J.

The bloody crime scene prompted a false rumor that there was an active shooter. Witnesses said they heard someone shout, “RUN!” Panic followed.

“In the midst of the chaos, officers received reports of a possible active shooter,” Rodriguez wrote in a statement.

Police officers arrested Love and found the knife. They also evacuated the area. Fire rescue personnel took the woman to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Her condition was critical, but Rodriguez said doctors expected her to survive.

The active-shooter scare at MIA was just as airlines worked to recover from the global tech failure that caused cancelations and delays. The crime scene was near international arrivals.

“Using all available resources, the units were able to determine there was no active shooter and only the stabbing had taken place,” Rodriguez wrote. “Airport operations were briefly disrupted but have since resumed to normal operations.”

Inmate records show Love was at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Sunday afternoon. He was facing charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon and premeditated attempted murder.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
